Taleb Rifai served as Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) from 2010 to 2018 — the highest position in global tourism governance, overseeing an organization representing 160 member states and managing an industry that contributes 10% of global GDP and employs 1 in 10 people worldwide.

A Jordanian economist and diplomat with a distinguished career across academia, government, and international organizations, Rifai served as Jordan's Minister of Tourism, Minister of Information, and Minister of Planning before his appointment to the UNWTO. He holds advanced degrees in architectural engineering and urban planning from the University of Illinois.

Under his leadership, the UNWTO championed sustainable and responsible tourism, crisis response frameworks for the industry, and the positioning of tourism as a core driver of economic development and intercultural understanding. His global network, policy expertise, and vision for the future of travel make him an invaluable voice for hospitality leaders, destination managers, and tourism investors worldwide.
